The new Greenway corridor is under construction in Coxs Bay. This path replaces the existing broken and regularly flooded path with a cycling and walking connection.
This path will form the backbone of a cycling network from the Auckland Harbour Bridge through Herne Bay to Grey Lynn Park and the Western Cycleway. This will be a safe off road corridor for kids, commuters and recreational cyclists.
These projects are funded and will be delivered over the next three years.
On ya bike Auckland!

Pizza Party planned for Symonds Street Community Garden

Life is flourishing at the Symonds Street Community Garden. The first vegetables are taking shape, the bee hives have grown from two to seven and there are lots of bumblebees among the self-seeding wildflowers.
Volunteers have set up as daily watering schedule and a major working bee on the first Sunday of each month. At each working bee they plan to develop the garden further and provide educational training. They are encouraging everyone from the community to take part.
The community aims to harvest the garden and host a pizza party on Sunday 13th March 2016.
Amazing generosity from the community
As previously mentioned in my January 2015 blog The Junction Pocket Park was built for $0. Thanks to the generous donations of businesses and individuals this garden has been built.
The team at WeCompost, who are committed to reducing and recycling organic waste, collects food waste from surrounding businesses and turns into compost. The team jumped on board early and has generously donated 10 compost bags to date that has formed the foundation to our first gardens.
Thanks to the very generous donation of a fence by local Grey Lynn Resident Roz from Neighbourly and a truck, petrol and insurance donated from Keith at Scotties Car Rental – New Zealand (also a Committee Member of the Uptown Business District) we now have a safety fence to be installed at the back of the garden.
The UpTown Business District have now become an official sponsors of the site with their generous donation of $1,500 which will go towards the soil testing (making sure there are no nasties), a sponsors sign, and a secure garden shed with a few gloves and tools.
The next working bee is Sunday 6th December 2015 where local volunteers will be building the garden shed, building composting bins and erecting the fence.
